Wednesday 22nd July; Miércoles el 22 julio
Well, that’s it. The lads are back in Islamabad
and this evening they have enjoyed a meal at their friend from the Argentinian embassy’s house. And of course, since
they left base camp, the weather has improved! Hopefully Nacho will have better luck in September with Cho-Oyu. And then he
will have to get back to “real life” in Argentina, climbing Aconcagua. If anyone wants to join him, let me know!
Pues, los chicos están en
Islamabad de nuevo y esta tarde cenaron a la casa de un amigo quien trabaja en la embajada argentina. Por supuesto, desde
que salieron del campo base, el
tiempo ha mejorado! Espero que Nacho vaya a tener más suerte en septiembre a Cho-Oyu. Y después tendrá que volver a la “vida
real” en Argentina, subiendo el Aconcagua. Si alguna persona quiere subir con él, ¡avísame!

Now our friends
are in Skardu. The man from the company in Islamabad who arranged things for them has gone to Skardu to meet them. He e-mailed
me at the weekend to see where they were and he has gone to meet them. He will travel with them along the Karakoram Highway
back to Islamabad.
Ahora
nuestros amigos están en Skardu. El hombre de la empresa la que organizó muchos para ellos ha ido a Skardu para buscarlos.
Me mandó un e-mail durante el fin de semana pasado preguntando donde estaban, y se fue a reunirse con ellos. Viajará por la
Ruta de Karakoram a Islamabad con ellos.

Yesterday they crossed the Ghondogoro La. It was a very beautiful journey. Today they will arrive at Hushe and tomorrow at Skardu. If there is a
flight on the 21st, they will be in Islamabad on the 21st, if not, on the 22nd.

Tomorrow
at 5am the lads will leave for Skardu: 4 days of a trek via a new route, the Ghondogoro La Valley. They have planned to try
to fly from Skardu to Islamabad to avoid a day and a half road journey.
They
also say that they all feel very disappointed to have put in so much effort and then not to have had the opportunity to try
to get to the summit. They think it is just unfair.

a las 5 de la mañana saldrán los chicos hacia Skardu: 4 días marcha por una nueva ruta, el Valle del Ghondogoro La. Han planeado
intentar volar desde Skardu a Islamabad para evitar un día y medio de viaje por carretera.
Dicen también que todos se sienten muy
decepcionados al haber invertido tantos esfuerzos y no haber tenido la oportunidad siquiera de luchar por la cima. Piensan
que sea injusto.

Wednesday 15th July; Miércoles el 15 de julio
A beautiful sunrise and a sunny day have compensated
for the hard day of yesterday. Nacho’s descent (10 hours) was very tough. But they are now all together in base camp
in good spirits. One by one, expeditions have been abandoned. Only those who have the time are waiting impatiently for a new
opportunity. So far there has only been one summit. The snow is lying very deep on the slopes of all the Gashrebrums. The
avalanches have been constant and their threatening rumble has been clearly heard throughout base camp.
Un amanecer precioso y un día soleado ha compensado el duro día
de ayer. El descenso de Nacho (10 horas) fue muy duro. Ya están todos juntos en el campo base con ánimo. Una tras otra abandonan
las expediciones. Solo aquellos que poseen de tiempo esperan impacientes una nueva oportunidad. Hasta ahora hay 1 solo cumbre.
La nieve rebosa las laderas de todos los Gasherbrums. Las avalanchas se repiten constantemente y el estruendo amenazante se
hace sentir fuertemente en todo campo base.

Nacho’s friend in the Argentinean embassy in Islamabad – he has a welcome dinner waiting for them. I know they
will be disappointed but they have wonderful friends and family.

Nacho has also decided not to continue. The weather
is still very bad so he is now on his way back down to base camp. David and Mikel are already there. They will send more news
when they can but the batteries in the phone are running low.

The bad weather
continues. It snowed throughout the night and there have been very high winds. There’s been an avalanche near to Camp
I. David has decided to abandon the attempt. He and Mikel will return to base camp tomorrow. Nacho is still in Camp II and
appears to be going to make a renewed attempt. Juan Luis hopes to be in communication with him tomorrow. I sent a message
to Nacho via Juan Luis telling him to take care.
El tiempo
sigue malo. Nevó toda la noche y ha habido vientos muy fuertes. Ha caído una avalancha
cerca de campo I. David se ha decidido por abandonar. Él y Mikel regresan al campo base mañana. Nacho continua en campo II
y parece va a realizar un nuevo intento. Juan Luis espera poder comunicarse con él mañana. Mandé un mensaje a Nacho por Juan

Today Mikel climbed up to Camp I again. The weather
has been changeable and this afternoon there were strong winds and some snow. Nacho and David are now at camp II but the communication
has not worked well today. The changeable weather will last until Thursday. Strong blizzards are forecast for tomorrow. Juan
Luis hopes that Mikel will be reunited with the others at Camp II as soon as possible. I don’t know any more about the
summit plan. Before they talked about Tuesday but now, with the weather, I don’t know.
Hoy salió Mikel de nuevo hacia campo I. El tiempo ha estado inestable
y esta tarde soplaron fuertes vientos y nevó algo. Nacho y David están ahora en campo II pero la comunicación no ha funcionado
bien hoy. Hay tiempo inestable que durará hasta el jueves. Se esperan fuertes ventiscas mañana. Juan Luis espera que Mikel

Today’s message is a little unclear. I’ll
write exactly what was sent to me. Juan Luis didn’t tell me why Mikel descended a bit – maybe to acclimatise.
Anyway...
It was a day that was a little out of the ordinary.
Nacho and David spent the whole day at Camp 1. Mikel had no choice but to go back to halfway between Camp I and base camp.
He hopes to make a renewed attempt in the early hours of tomorrow morning. If all goes well, he will meet up with Nacho and
David at Camp II at the start of the evening.
Today is a holiday in Pakistan. The Pakistanis have
invited everyone in base camp to a party with speeches, prizes, a banquet, music and dancing. The whole valley is illuminated
by torches – beautiful!
El mensaje de hoy no
está muy claro. Escribiré exactamente lo que recibí, pero Juan Luis no me dijo porque Mikel bajó un poco – puede ser
que necesite aclimatar más. Bueno...

Last night’s soirée (it’s very posh at
base camp) with the Spanish group went very well and gave new energy to the group. The weather is somewhat changeable and
it is now snowing lightly. The temperature is good. Early tomorrow morning the adventure will begin...around 2.30am Pakistani
time they will start a new ascent to Camp I. They foresee climbing up to Camp II the day after tomorrow and hope to get to
the summit on the 14th (Tuesday).

al grupo español fue estupenda y dio nuevo energía al grupo. El tiempo está algo inestable y ahora nieva ligeramente. La temperatura

Today’s text said that the weather is fabulous and they have been invited to have dinner with the Spaniards in the neighbouring
camp, with amongst others, the veteran climber, Carlos Soria Fontán.

This morning Juan Luis was in communication with David in Camp I. No one had moved up to Camp II. The weather
is bad higher up, even though it is sunny in base camp, so they are coming back down to base camp tomorrow. No one will try
to get to Camp II. They hope that the equipment they have at Camp II survives the wind.
Esta mañana Juan Luis se comunicó con David en el Campo I. Nadie se ha movido
a Campo II. Hace mal tiempo arriba aunque hay sol en campo base, y entonces regresan mañana al campo base. Nadie intentará

There was a full moon when Nacho, David and Mikel
left base camp at 2.45am. They arrived at Camp I at 10.30am without any problems. Juan Luis remained in base camp. The weather
is changing again and it’s now very cold in base camp where Juan Luis is, sending these messages.

cuando los tres, Nacho, David y Mikel, salieron del campo base a las 02.45 horas de la madrugada. Llegaron al campo I hacia
las 10.30 horas de la mañana bien y sin problemas. Juan Luis se quedó en el campo base. El tiempo está cambiado de nuevo y
ahora hace mucho frío en el campo base donde está Juan Luis, enviando estos mensajes.

Sunday 5th July afternoon; Domingo el 5 de Julio, la tarde
Nacho and David have just called me from base camp. Nacho was saying hello and asking
how I am and then David did all the talking. His English is excellent. He says that during the past week, he has taken on
a “diplomatic role”, being the go-between between their group and the English speaking groups.
They are still in base camp, but after 8 days of storms and loads of snow, the
weather has improved and in 5 hours time, Nacho, David and Mikel will climb up to Camp I. The
forecast is for 3 days of good weather followed by winds of up to 100km/hr on the 9th and 10th. The
wind is not forecast to bring snow, but there is a high possibility that the camp that they set up at Camp II will be blown away, so they will try to get to Camp II tomorrow to dismantle it and bury the equipment to keep it safe.
Then they will descend to base camp until the winds pass. The groups with the big mountaineering companies are not going up
today, but our group needs to secure the equipment.
There is then a window on the 13th-15th July in which
they hope to be able to get to the summit. It sounds like most groups are aiming for this. At least our group will have been
acclimatised as far as Camp II. They have only
paid for base camp services up until the 12th, so they are now negotiating the price of an extended stay. Juan
Luis will not be joining them in the summit push, but he has not yet decided whether to wait in base camp or head back to
Askole and Skardu.
After so many days trapped in base camp, they are looking forward to getting moving,
but they have promised to be careful. They know that for the rest of us, it is more important they get back to base camp safely
then get to the summit. They sounded very cheerful and they send their love to all their friends and family.

Dice que durante la última semana, ha tenido un “papel diplomático”, siendo el mediador entre su grupo y los grupos
anglohablantes.
Todavía
están en campo base, pero después de 8 días de tormentas y mucha nieve, el tiempo ha mejorado y dentro de 5 horas, Nacho,
David y Mikel subirán hasta el campo I. El pronóstico es por 3 días de buen tiempo seguidos por los vientos hasta de 100kph
durante el 9 y el 10 de julio. No se pronostica nieve con el viento, pero hay una alta posibilidad que su campo en el campo
II estará destruido por los viento, así que mañana intentarán subir hasta el campo II para desmontarlo y para enterrar el
equipo para mantenerlo seguro. Luego bajarán al campo base hasta que los vientos pasen. Los grupos con las compañías grandes
no están subiendo hoy, pero nuestro grupo necesita asegurar el equipo.
Hay una
ventana de buen tiempo los días 13-15 de julio en cuál esperan poder subir a la cumbre. La mayoría de los grupos esperan igual.
Por lo menos nuestro grupo estará aclimatado hasta el campo II. Han pagado solamente por los servicios del campo
base hasta el 12 y ahora están negociando el precio de una estancia extendida. Juan Luis no va a la cumbre, pero todavía no
ha decidido si va a esperar en campo base o dirigirse a Askole y Skardu.
Después
de tantos días atrapados en campo base, tienen ganas de subir la montaña, pero han prometido tener cuidados. Saben que, para
el resto de nosotros, es más importante que vuelvan al campo base que llegen a la cumbre. Parecen muy alegre y envían sus
saludos a todos sus amigos y familia.

They are still in base camp. The snow storm has lasted
6 days. Things are looking pretty hopeless. It has snowed a lot and they need the sun to come out and melt some of the snow.
All the expeditions will be working as a big team to get to the summit. Nacho, David and Mikel are hoping to climb. Juan Luis
has decided not to attempt the summit. On Monday (6th) they will hopefully be climbing up to camp I.

I’ve been away for a couple of days so here

Friday – It only took the team 5 hours to get
up to their intermediate camp. They can feel their acclimatisation getting better.
Saturday – Nacho and David climbed up to Camp
II to establish their camp there. Mikel and Juan Luis climbed to Camp I. Today (Sunday) they will climb back down to base
camp as there are 4 days of bad weather forecast.
Estaba fuera de la
casa para 2 días. Aquí están los mensajes los que recibí desde el jueves:
Viernes – El
equipo llevó solo 5 horas llegar a su campo intermedio. Su aclimación mejora.

All Nacho’s messages arrive in Spanish, except
for once answerphone message that Chicho had thoughtfully left in excellent English to make things easier for me. Today I
got two messages.
The easy message arrived by text and said today they
had a rest day. Tonight they are heading up to their intermediate camp again
with the rest of the equipment they need for the climb. And they said hello to everyone. Easy.
The difficult message was left on my answerphone by
Nacho. Anyone that knows him will know that he has a tendency to be poetic. Which is fine. But poetic when it is a call from
a satellite phone to an answerphone in a foreign language requires some listening to!! I think I have now listened to it about
10 times, and this is what I can make out:
The group is very motivated. Everyone noticed that
their acclimatisation needs to be improved......The sun is very hot......The views are marvellous. They look like pictures
from a magazine. The snow has formed itself into whimsical peaks that hardly move so that you have to trek around the edges
of them......There are markers to show the path.....recently something or other happened so that some have disappeared into
the depths of the crevices....They are walking slowly and tiredly. Never in his life does he remember making such a big effort....They
are keeping going....
There was a bit more but I really can’t hear
that clearly at all and the recording stops.
But they are well, and heading higher tonight.
Todos
los mensajes de Nacho llegan en español, a excepción de un mensaje en mi contestador que Chicho con consideración había dejado
en inglés excelente para hacer las cosas más fácil para mí. Recibí hoy dos mensajes.
El
mensaje fácil llegó por el texto y dijo que sea un día de descanso. Están dirigiendo esta noche hasta su campo intermedio
de nuevo con el resto del equipo que necesitan para la subida. Y dijeron hola a cada uno. Fácil.
El
mensaje difícil fue dejado en mi contestador de casa por Nacho. Cualquier persona que le conoce sabrá que él tiene una tendencia
a ser poético. Poético es bueno. ¡Pero poético cuando es una llamada de un teléfono satélito a una contestador en un idioma
extranjero no es muy fácil entender!! Pienso que ahora lo he escuchado cerca de 10 veces, y esto es lo que puedo entender:
El
grupo está muy motivado. Cada uno se notaba la falta de aclimatación...... el sol es muy fuerte ...... las vistas son maravillosas.
Parecen como imágenes de una revista. La nieve hacen forma caprichosa que tienen poco movimiento frente al que tiene que transitar
las orillas...... hay marcadores a mostrar el camino .....recién algo (no sé que) pasó y se han borrado en el profundo de
las grietas….Están caminando lentamente y cansadamente. Nunca en su vida él recuerda hacer un esfuerzo tan grande….Continúan….
Había
un poco más en el mensaje pero no puedo oírlo claramente y luego la grabación paró.
Pero
están bien, y están dirigiendo más arriba esta noche.

Nacho, Chicho,
Mikel and Juan Luis are back in the 5 star luxury of base camp. Today they climbed up to Camp I (5800m), established a camp
there and then descended back down to base camp. They also have an intermediate camp at 5500m. They’re all dead tired
now.
Nacho, Chicho, Mikel y Juan Luis están de nuevo en la comodidad 5* del campo base. Hoy subieron al campo 1 (5800m)
, instalaron el campo allá y bajaron al campo base. Tienen también un campo intermedio
a 5500m. Todos están muy cansados ahora.

After 10 horas, the lads have had to set up camp, still some 2 hours away from Camp
I. Tomorrow they will try to complete the transfer of equipment. They didn’t tell me anything about the weather but
they did say that they need to acclimatise more.

2 horas del

Monday 22nd June;

Tonight at 2100 (UK time) Nacho, Chicho, Mikel and
Juan Luis will leave base camp to climb up to camp I, each carrying more than 20kg on their backs. They will come back down
on Wednesday having established their camp and spent time at 5900m. Here is a description
of the route to the top:
The ascent begins
from the base camp at 5,400m which is in the central moraine of the Abruzzos glacier next to its confluence with the South
Gasherbrum glacier. The ascent route has three distinct parts:
I- Base Icefall
To get to the
base of the route up Gasherbrum II, you have to first traverse the small icefall outside of base camp. The route is maintained
and marked by the expeditions that are on the mountain, as there are cracks, projections, lagoons, glaciers and avalanches
in the slopes, and other obstacles that can change as the result of the movement of the glacier.
Camp 1 is very
close to the base of the SW ridge, at just under 5900m. The normal traverse time is around 7 hours, but this decreases considerably
with acclimatisation.
II - The Moravec Spur
The Spur is
a well defined ridge of snow with a steep glacier to the right and crevasses of snow and rock to the left. The route swings
between the snowy slope and the arête, looking for the easiest way. The slope is very steep (more than 60º) and is one of
the more exposed sections and you gain altitude quickly between Camps I and II. Camp II is at 6,450m on a large sheltered
ridge, and Camp III is sited at just under 7000m, just above and to the right of Camp II, at the top of the same spur and
is also relatively well sheltered area. There are fixed ropes all the way along the spur which not only help the ascent but
also mean you can get back down again quickly in case of bad weather. Once acclimated, with these fixed ropes, the time between
each one of the camps is about 3 to 4 hours.
III - The Summit
From Camp III
it is necessary to continue along the arête to 7.400m under the perfect pyramid summit. Sometimes Camp IV is set up here,
to facilitate a safe descent. From here it is necessary to make one long diagonal traverse across the smooth snowy slopes
of snow, below the summit pyramid, to reach the east ridge. This is at an altitude of 7750m. From here there is a slope that
though steep, presents few difficulties, apart from the final steep rocky 50 meters, and then they will reach the summit.

20kg en la espalda. Bajarán el miércoles, habiendo establecido su campo y pasado tiempo a 5900m. Se puede leer una descripción
de la ruta hasta la cumbre:
La ascensión comienza
desde el Campo Base, que se instala a una altura de 5.400 m. en la morrena central del glaciar de los Abruzaos junto a la
confluencia con el glaciar meridional de los Gasherbrum. La ruta de ascensión tiene tres partes bien diferenciadas:
I- La cascada de
hielo
Desde el Campo Base
al Campo I, es preciso superar la cascada de hielo del glaciar meridional de los Gasherbrum; es preciso su equipamiento y
señalización y una labor de mantenimiento de la ruta por parte de las expediciones presentes en la montaña, dada la existencia
de grietas, resaltes, seracs, lagunas glaciares, avalanchas en las laderas que lo enmarcan y otros obstáculos y alteraciones
consecuencias del propio movimiento del glaciar, para mantener segura esta sección.
El Campo I se instala
a unos 5.950 m. de altura, en el plató superior y en las proximidades de la continuación de la ruta, Requiere entre siete
y ocho horas de actividad desde el Campamento Base para alcanzarlo, aunque, una vez que se haya alcanzado una buena aclimatación se puede reducirse bastante este tiempo.
II- El
espolón Moravec
Se trata de una línea
bien definida de nieve con una fuerte pendiente glaciar a su derecha y cortes de nieve y roca a su izquierda; la ruta se alterna
entre la pendiente de nieve y la arista buscando el terreno más fácil y salvando resaltes. La pendiente es fuerte (más de
60º) ganándose altura rápidamente sobretodo entre el campo I y II, donde se encuentran
los tramos más expuestos. El Campo II se instala a 6.450 m. en un rellano de la propia arista bastante resguardado, y el campo
III sobre el mismo espolón a 7.050m. de altura. Se instalan cuerdas fijas a lo largo de todo el espolón no solo para facilitar
la subida sino sobre todo para asegurar un descenso rápido en caso de mal tiempo. Una vez aclimatado y con las cuerdas fijas
instaladas, el tiempo que puede invertirse entre cada uno de los campamentos es de 3 a 4 horas.
III-
La cumbre
Desde el Campo III
es preciso continuar la arista hasta los 7.400m aproximadamente bajo la perfecta pirámide cimera (a veces se instala un Campo
IV en este punto, lo que facilita en muchos casos un seguro descenso). Desde aquí es preciso hacer una larga travesía en diagonal
por suaves pendientes de nieve, bajo la pirámide cimera, esto nos lleva a alcanzar la arista Este a una altura de 7.750m.
desde donde por una fuerte pendiente aunque sin dificultades especiales salvo una banda de rocas en los últimos 50 metros
alcanzarán la cumbre.

el 21 de junio
Our friends are in base camp at 5400m. They spent
yesterday and today there. The weather has been good with clear skies, and they have been practising ice climbing on the glacier.
They have also been using the base camp facilities to shower and shave. Juan Luis still has a few stomach problems but nothing
bad. There are 5 other expeditions in base camp and they have been talking to all the leaders. No one has been up as far as
camp I yet, so they will have to do some of the equipping of the route themselves. Tomorrow they hope to climb up to
camp I and back down again.
Nuestros
amigos están en el campo base a 5400m. Pasaron ayer y hoy allí. El tiempo ha sido bueno con los cielos despejados, y han estado practicando subiendo el hielo del glaciar. También han estado utilizando las instalaciones del
campo base para ducharse y afeitarse. Juan Luis todavía tiene algunos problemas del estomago, pero no muy malos. Hay 5 otras
expediciones en campo base y han estado hablando con todos los líderes. Ya nadie ha subido hasta del campo I, así que ellos
tendrán que equipar la ruta ellos mismos. Mañana esperan subir hasta el campo I y volver.

19th June; viernes el 19 de junio
When the sun came
up this morning, the sky was completely clear. While Nacho, Chicho, Mikel and Juan Luis were climbing to 4770m, they were
able to see most of the largest mountains on this planet. When they texted me, the sky was still clear and full of stars.
However Juan Luis’s stomach problems have returned and, with him and other people in the camp, the “doctors”
are tending to 5 patients. Tomorrow they hope to reach base camp. They send their best wishes to all their loved ones.
Amaneció
completamente despejado esta mañana. Mientras subieron a 4770m, vieron casi todos las montañas más altas del planeta. Cuando
me mandaron un mensaje, el cielo era un cuadro de estrellas. Pero otra vez, Juan Luis tiene problemas de estomago, y con los
otros en el campo, en total los “médicos” tienen 5 pacientes. Mañana esperan llegar al campo base. Mandan sus
saludos a todos sus amigos y familias.

June; jueves el 18 de junio
The group have
spent another day at Goro2 because the snow has been too heavy to move on. Nobody has been able to leave camp. They have read,
chatted and played cards. The whole day passed without them being able to see the mountain once.
El
grupo ha pasado otro día a Goro 2 porque ha nevado muy fuerte. Nadie se ha movido. Leyeron, charlaron y jugaron a cartas.
Pasaron un día entero sin ver la montaña.

I got a text today to say that the group are now at 4150m in a place called Goro 2. It’s been snowing
all day and is very cold. They are all very well and are fancying themselves as doctors as they have cured a porter of some
unspecified ailment!
Recibí un mensaje de text hoy, diciendo que ahora el grupo está a 4150m en
un lugar que se llama Goro 2. Ha nevado todo el día y hace mucho frío. Todos están muy bien. Curaron a un porteador de una
enfermidad no especificada, y ¡ahora piensan que son medicos!

Nacho called quickly
from their camp near the Baltoro Glacier. It’s been a rest day and they have done very little. Everyone is well. No
dodgy stomachs. I passed on everyone’s good wishes to them. Tomorrow they head for Urdunca (which I am sure is not how
you spell it) at 3800m.

Friday –
The group are very well and full up after a good dinner. They are in Astoli at 3000m. Everything is going well.
Saturday –
They are at Jola Camp at 3000m. Still going well. Weather is cold and cloudy.
Sunday –
They are in Paju at the edge of the Baltoro Glacier at 3260m. Tomorrow is a rest
day.
Viernes – El grupo está bien y satisfecho después de una buena cena. Están a Askoli a 3000m. Todos se
encontran muy animados.
Sábado – Están en el campo Jola a 3000m. Todo sigue bien. El tiempo es frío y nublado.
Domingo – Están en Paju al borde del glaciar Baltoro a 3260m. Mañana será un día de descanso.

Friday 12th June;
Viernes el 12 de junio
Up to now, there have been
no problems. The day that we landed at Islamabad, we were met at the airport by Eduardo (secretary at the Argentinian
embassy) who took us to a party for diplomats from the Hispanic embassies. It was a very strange arrival but great fun. The
people from the agency (organising the expedition as far as base camp) seen to be very nice people, and very professional.
Then Juan Luis arrived but his luggage had got lost. We decided to stay for 2 more days in Islamabad to wait for his luggage, but in the end we decided to leave and sort it out in
other ways.
On Wednesday we set off along
the Karakoram Highway. On the first day, we arrived
at Chilas after 19 hours on the go, millions of curves and bends and traffic that was so dreadful that we only went 450km!!
Chicho started to have problems with his stomach tha had gone round everyone, apart from Mikel. Now they are all well.
The following day, we went
to Skardu. It took 10 hours to travel 300km but the road was better and the countryside was fantastic. The mountains started
to appear like columns all around us. We saw our first 8000m mountain with our own eyes, Nanga Parbat and we continued along
the road that was carved out alongside the fast and furious Indus
River.
In Skardu we met Taqi, a great
man. He helped us to buy the last things that we needed. Now everything is ready to start on the trek to base camp.
Hasta ahora todo está llendo
sin problemas.El día que aterrizaron en Islamabad les vino a recoger al aeropuerto Eduardo
(secretario de la embajada argentina)
y los llevó a una fiesta diplomática con gente de las embajadas hispano-hablantes. Fue una llegada un poco extraña pero muy
divertida. La gente de la agencia parecen muy buena gente y muy profesionales.
Luego llegó Juan Luis con el problema de
su equipaje que nunca apareció. Decidieron esperar 2 días más en Islamabad
por si llegaba su equipaje pero finalmente decidieron irse y buscar otras soluciones.
El miércoles
se pusieron en marcha en la Karakorum Highway. El
primer día llegaron a Chilas después de 19 horas de baches, millones de curvas y un tráfico espantoso para solo recorrer
450 km!!!. Chicho empezó a tener probemas con el estomago que se han propagado entre todos, bueno, todos menos Mikel. Ahora
están todos bien.
Al día siguiente se fueron
a Skardu. 10 horas para 300 km pero la carretera era mejor y el paisaje era fantástico. Las montañas empezaban a surgir como columnas a sus alrededor. Vieron con sus propios ojos la primera
montaña de 8000 mt. El Nanga Parbat y siguieron recorriendo la esculpida carretra que remonta un río Indo bravo y furioso.
En Skardu se han encontrado
con Taqi. Un tipo noble. Los ayudó a terminar de hacer las últimas compras. Ahora ya está todo preparado para empezar el trekk
al campo base.

Expedition 2009!
Nacho, David (Chico),
Mikel and Juan Luis have arrived in Islamabad though not all of Juan Luis’s baggage has arrived. They have to wait for
that but in any case, they have number of things to sort out still – last minute purchases and admin/paperwork, which
Nacho’s contact at the Argentinian embassy is helping with. They hope to get these all done in two days and them get
on the road to Scoli and then Skardu by vehicle. And then on to the mountains on foot.

David (Chico), Mikel y Juan Luis han llegado en Islamabad, pero no con todo el equipaje de Juan Luis. Tienen que esperar para
la llegada del equipaje pero, de todos modos, tienen algunas cosas hacer – compras de última hora y varios trámites.
Un contacto de Nacho en la embajada de Argentina les ayude con los trámites. Esperan terminarlos dentro de dos días y dirigirse
a Scoli, y después a Skardu en vehículo. Y después a las montañas a pie.

has unfinished business with Gasherbrum II, so at the start of June he is returning to Pakistan and leading an expedition
to the same mountain as he almost conquered last year. This year three of his friends are going with him: Juan Luis, Mikel
and David (Chico). They are due to arrive in Islamabad on the 6th/7th June.
Nacho tiene un asunto pendiente con Gasherbrum II. Entonces,
al comienzo de junio, vuelve a Pakistán y será el líder de una expedición a la misma montaña donde casi hizo cumbre el año
pasado. Este año va con tres amigos: Juan Luis, Mikel y David (Chico). Llegarán en Islamabad el 6 y 7 de junio.
